Houston Sierra Club general monthly meeting: LaVerne Williams presents “The Houston Height’s Integral Urban Homestead”

When:       Thursday, February 12th, 2015
Time:         7:00 PM
Where:      St. Stephen’s Pecore Hall
Location:  1805 W. Alabama, Houston, TX
Cost:         free and open to the public

The meeting opens at 7:00 PM, and the program starts at 7:30 PM. Everyone is welcome.  “The Houston Height’s Integral Urban Homestead” is private residence that demonstrates that healthy homes and homeplaces can be created as healthy oasis to provide 100% of our home water and energy needs, some or most our food organically, and where allergies, among other health issues can dissipate.  Instead of the usual cradle to grave environmental nightmare that the homebuilding industry creates, we should and can be creating healthful, durable, extraordinarily energy efficient dwellings & homeplaces that delight & nurture life, finances & security, and which bring beauty and joy while being a place, especially in stressful urban environments, to recuperate.

Bottom line: Those who strive for sustainable and resilient lifestyles should use their home as the one place where they can capture and use renewable energy and water resources and by doing so, also have a homeplace that is designed and built for beauty, durability and the efficient use of resources while also being a place for improving their health, community, and the environment.

Meeting is in Pecore Hall, which faces the parking lot at Sul Ross & Woodhead. (entrance & parking at Sul Ross & Woodhead) Before 7:00 PM, left turns are not allowed at Woodhead. If you are going west on W. Alabama, turn right at Dunlavy, then left to Marshall, then left to Woodhead.  For more information, please go to: meetup.com/Houston-Sierra-Club-Outings

Homes for Life: creating healthful, durable, extraordinarily energy efficient dwellings & homeplaces that delight & nurture life, finances & security, presented by LaVerne Williams, AIA, LEED AP, Nationally Renowned Architect for “The Houston Height’s Integral Urban Homestead”.  It’s all about creating healthy homes & homeplaces as oases which are capable of providing 100% of your water and energy needs, some or most of your food organically, and where allergies, among other health issues can dissipate.  Some of the topics covered:  using free natural resources , creating sustainable lives and resilient homes, and designing and building for a healthy life.

The recently occupied homeplace in the Heights (“The Houston Height’s Integral Urban Homestead”) is a private residence that demonstrates all of the above.  Instead of the usual cradle-to-grave environmental nightmare that homebuilding usually creates healthful, beautiful, durable, and extraordinarily energy efficient dwellings & homeplaces can be created that delight & nurture life, finances & security…..while also for rest and recuperation from our increasingly unhealthy and stressful urbanenvironment.

Those who strive for sustainable and resilient lifestyles can use their home as the place where they can capture and use renewable energy and water resources, grow their own food organically, and by so choosing, have a homeplace that is designed and built to provide beauty, durability and the efficient use of resources while improving their health, surroundings and community.

The Stafford Centre is located in Southwest Greater Houston, just 15 miles from downtown Houston at 10505 Cash Road, Stafford Centre, 77477 at the corner of Murphy Road in Stafford, Texas.  For more information, please go to:sugarlandhomeandgarden.com/saturday-community-impact-newspaper-home-ideas-stage/
